Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted, and he will now face trial. This was reported by thepublic.info citing ABC News and CNN

Comey, a long-time opponent of the president, is now the first high-ranking government official to be federally charged in one of Trump's biggest allegations: the 2016 investigation into whether his first presidential campaign colluded with Russia.

Comey is accused of giving false testimony and obstructing Congress's work.Prosecutors claim that Comey authorized leaking information about the FBI investigation to the media through an anonymous source, but then told the Senate that he did not do so.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated in her X post : "No one is above the law".

"Today’s indictment reflects the Department of Justice's commitment to hold accountable those who, abusing their official positions, deceive the American people," wrote Bondi. "We will follow the facts in this case."

In a statement published by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia, it is stated that if Comey is found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison.

«JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst people this country has ever faced is James Comey, a former corrupt FBI director,» wrote Trump in a post on Truth Social.

Comey responded to the indictment in a video on Instagram, saying: «Let's have a trial. And keep the faith.» «My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great trust in the federal judicial system, and I am innocent,» he added.

Comey’s son-in-law, Troy A. Edwards Jr., resigned from his position as senior national security prosecutor on Thursday shortly after the former FBI director was charged.
