Persian Gulf countries close their airspace: airlines cancel flights en masse
Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates have announced the closure of their airspace following reports of explosions in the region, according to The Guardian.
According to the publication, the decision was made following reports of explosions in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Manama (Bahrain), Kuwait and Qatar after Iran launched missiles.
Even before the official closure of airspace, a number of airlines suspended flights in the region.
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has temporarily cancelled all flights to and from Israel, Dubai and Abu Dhabi (UAE), as well as Amman (Jordan) from today until 7 March.
Germany's Lufthansa has suspended flights to and from Dubai, Tel Aviv (Israel), Beirut (Lebanon) and Muscat (Oman) for the weekend.
The Dutch airline KLM has cancelled flights from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv.
Oman Air has suspended flights to Iran and Israel.
Kuwait has suspended air traffic with Iran until further notice.
Israel, in turn, has cancelled all civilian flights and closed its airspace.
