Europe's critical infrastructure is under constant threat of sabotage
Europe's critical infrastructure, especially in the Baltic Sea, remains at high risk of sabotage. This was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
According to her, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war, there has been a clear trend towards subversive activities against European infrastructure. Kallas thanked the Finnish authorities for their swift action in detaining the vessel and crew suspected of damaging the submarine cables.
She stressed that the EU will maintain close coordination with the governments of Finland and Estonia during the investigation. The EU also plans to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure by investing in new cables, expanding surveillance systems, building up repair capacity and countering Moscow's so-called shadow fleet, which is used for hybrid attacks.
