Kurdish armed groups based in Iraq have announced the start of a ground military operation against Iranian forces. This was reported by a representative of the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan.

A representative of the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan said that Kurdish armed groups based in Iraq have already launched a military operation against Iranian government forces.

According to him, fighters from the Free Life Party of Kurdistan began taking up combat positions on Iranian territory on Monday, 2 March, the NY Post reports.

"Ground military movements by Kurdish forces against Iran began at midnight on 2 March," the coalition representative said.

He also noted that on 3 March, Iranian troops left the border town of Marivan and began to set up defensive positions in the area around the city.

According to a representative of the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan, fighters from the Free Life Party of Kurdistan have deployed in the southern mountainous areas near Marivan in western Iran.

He said that several thousand fighters are already in the mountainous regions of Iran, particularly in the Zagros Mountains.

The Free Life Party of Kurdistan has two armed units. These are the Eastern Kurdistan Defence Units and the Women's Defence Forces, which, according to him, were modelled on Kurdish formations in Syria.

The statements came amid media reports about the possibility of the United States cooperating with Kurdish groups to put pressure on the Iranian government.

An American official confirmed the information in a comment to Fox News.

According to CNN, the US Central Intelligence Agency is considering options for providing weapons to Kurdish forces in order to support the uprising inside Iran.

Axios reported that US President Donald Trump had spoken with Kurdish leaders in Iraq. During the conversation, they discussed the conflict between Israel and Iran and possible next steps.

The Wall Street Journal also wrote that Donald Trump's administration is considering supporting armed groups within Iran that are ready to oppose the government.

A representative of the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan said that several Kurdish political and military groups are ready to cooperate with the United States and Israel.

"Most of the armed parties in Eastern Kurdistan are ready to act together and openly cooperate with the State of Israel and the United States," he said.

Among such organisations, he named the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurds, the Komala faction and the Kurdistan Freedom Party.

According to him, the Free Life Party of Kurdistan has several thousand fighters, while other groups together number several hundred people. Some of them took part in the fighting against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

He also stated that several thousand trained fighters in Eastern Kurdistan are ready to receive weapons from the United States and Israel.

The coalition representative linked possible cooperation with Israel and the US to a broader geopolitical vision. According to him, Iran is a multinational state inhabited by Kurds, Baloch, Azerbaijanis, Turkmen and Arabs.

He also suggested that the weakening of central authority could give these communities more autonomy or independence.

He said that a future Kurdish state could become a strategic corridor between the Persian Gulf and Israel.

"The Kurds are a powerful force for defeating Israel's enemies," he said.

He also stated that Kurds and Jews are natural allies in the Middle East.

At the same time, information about the movements of Kurdish military formations and possible support from the United States has not been independently confirmed.

The White House and Israeli officials have not publicly confirmed plans to arm Kurdish groups in Iran.
