Russian media have reported that Anton Milaev, who is said to be the great-grandson of Leonid Brezhnev, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, has been taken prisoner by Ukrainian forces.

According to Russian media reports, Anton Milaev was born and lived in Ukraine. He is said to be the adopted grandson of Galina Brezhneva – the daughter of former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev.

It is claimed that Galina Brezhneva raised him as her own grandson.

How he ended up in the war

According to Russian media reports, 45-year-old Milaev signed up with the Russian army in the autumn of 2025 and went to fight against Ukraine.

It is reported that he served as a sapper.

In November 2025, he stopped communicating with his family.

What his relatives say

The soldier’s mother, Irina Kuznetsova, told journalists that for several months she had no information whatsoever about her son’s fate.

The family were later informed that he was alive and being held as a prisoner of war by Ukraine.

According to Russian media reports, Anton Milaev is currently being held in Ukrainian-controlled territory in the Kherson region.

At the time of publication, there has been no official confirmation of this information from the Ukrainian side.
