London has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited the United Kingdom, where he held talks with the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. This was the head of state’s first international visit to London since Burnham took office, and Zelenskyy became the first foreign leader to be received by him in person.
The meeting took place at the naval base in Portsmouth. Andy Burnham stated that this choice was no coincidence and was intended to demonstrate the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
“Volodymyr, you are the first leader I have personally received since taking office, and this is no coincidence. It is intended to send a very clear signal. We stand one hundred per cent with Ukraine. I personally stand one hundred per cent with you and will fully honour all the commitments the UK has made to Ukraine,” said Burnham.
The President of Ukraine thanked the British Prime Minister and noted that relations between the two countries had become stronger than ever. Following the meeting, Zelenskyy emphasised that this visit was an important signal of unwavering support for Ukraine.
During the talks, the British side announced the transfer to Ukraine of the intellectual property rights to the Stone Cloak electronic warfare system, which will enable its large-scale production. The device is designed to make it more difficult for Russian systems to detect drones.
According to Bernam, this technology will help drones reach their targets and help save Ukrainian lives. The UK Ministry of Defence has already supplied the Ukrainian military with thousands of such systems.
The Prime Minister also stated that the UK, together with its allies, would continue to lead the ‘coalition of the willing’. He said that once the ceasefire comes into effect, London is ready to deploy multinational forces to strengthen Ukraine’s long-term security.
During the visit, the parties also met with over 200 Ukrainian military personnel who had been undergoing training in the UK as part of Exercise Sea Breeze, aimed at enhancing combat capabilities and mine countermeasures in the Black Sea.
The UK Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband, emphasised that British support for Ukraine remains resolute and unwavering. He said that London would continue to provide military, economic and diplomatic assistance, as well as developing modern technologies to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during the talks, particular attention was paid to the future of bilateral cooperation. The President announced his intention to implement a joint project with the UK in the field of drone production.
“We have achieved a great deal together with Keir Starmer and are set to open a new chapter in our relations. For example, the agreement on drones. I want to build a large factory in the UK based on new technologies and share them with our partners. We are ready to pass on all our expertise to the UK,” said Zelenskyy.
The President of Ukraine also expressed his hope that cooperation in the field of drone production would be mutually beneficial for both countries.
