Ukraine has announced that the final stage of testing a new ballistic missile is underway
Denis Stilerman, chief designer and owner of the Ukrainian company Fire Point, has stated that the new Ukrainian ballistic missile is in the final stages of testing. He made these remarks in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon.
According to Shtilerman, once the test flights are complete, the missiles may be deployed against targets on Russian territory.
“The military will decide where, but I think these will be significant targets right from the start,” he said.
At the same time, Stilerman noted that the timeline for the ballistic missiles entering service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces will depend on the results of the engine tests.
“We’ll fuel the engine, mount it on the test bench, carry out a burn test and see how it performs. If there are any inaccuracies, we’ll correct them all. But we’re doing everything very quickly,” said the chief designer.
According to the source, Fire Point is one of the Ukrainian military’s largest contractors. The company manufactures the FP-1 long-range strike drones and the FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ cruise missiles.
The company officially announced the development of the FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles in September 2025. The first test launch of the FP-7 was demonstrated in February 2026. It was noted that the FP-7 missile is designed to strike targets at ranges of up to 250 or 300 kilometres, whilst the FP-9 can reach up to 850 kilometres.
In early June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was close to developing its own ballistic missile, which could be used to strike targets on Russian territory. According to him, previous strikes by Ukrainian drones and missiles on Russian military targets indicate that Ukraine will respond to aggression and strengthen its own capabilities.
In 2024, the Ukrainian authorities reported the successful testing of the first new-generation ballistic missile, although its specifications were not disclosed.
