Almost 194,000 criminal proceedings: the scale of crimes committed by Russian military personnel in Ukraine
Hundreds of thousands of crimes committed by Russian Federation military personnel and their accomplices since the start of the full-scale invasion have been documented in Ukraine. This is evidenced by summary data from law enforcement agencies as of 17 January 2026.
A total of 193,656 criminal proceedings have been initiated for crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine by Russian military personnel and their accomplices. Of these, 176,687 relate to war crimes.
A separate category consists of proceedings concerning violations of Ukraine's territorial integrity and inviolability, of which there are 9,383. Another 4,657 cases have been opened for collaboration, and 426 for treason.
Particularly alarming are the figures relating to crimes against children. According to official information, as a result of the Russian Federation's aggression, 678 children have been killed, 2,334 have been injured, and 2,221 are considered missing. In addition, 49,785 children are wanted, 20,000 have been deported to Russia, of whom 1,961 have been returned. These figures do not include areas of active combat operations and temporarily occupied territories.
In addition, law enforcement agencies are investigating 144 criminal cases of sexual violence committed by Russian military personnel.
