Almost 930 buildings in Kyiv remain without heating after Russian attacks
In Kyiv, 926 residential buildings remain without central heating. All of them are located on the left bank of the capital. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a conference call on energy issues. According to him, more than 1,200 buildings were without heat the day before, but energy companies managed to partially stabilise the situation, DW reports.
The president noted that the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Internal Affairs had brought in additional generators, and reserves from various regions of Ukraine had been sent to help the capital. The city also has warming centres where people can warm up and get hot food.
The Kyiv City State Administration explained that in order to restore heat supply to individual buildings, the hot water supply had been temporarily restricted. The freed-up thermal power is being directed specifically to start up the heating systems. The Kyiv City State Administration emphasises that this is a necessary and short-term measure, which is only being applied where technically necessary, in particular in the Desnianskyi district, where the system is being started up for the third time.
Meanwhile, DTEK reported that over the past week, energy companies have managed to restore electricity supply to more than 1.2 million households across the country. The largest number of restorations was recorded in Kyiv, where electricity was restored to 645,300 families. Electricity was also restored to 253,300 households in the Odesa region, 120,000 in the Dnipropetrovsk region, more than 104,000 in the Donetsk region, and 86,600 in the Kyiv region.
As a reminder, on the night of 24 January, Russia launched 375 drones and 21 missiles of various types at Ukraine. The main target of the attack was the Kyiv region. As a result of the attack, more than 170 objects were damaged, including energy infrastructure and more than 60 residential buildings.
