Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte plan to present photographic and scientific evidence to the court to prove that the First Lady is a woman.

French President and his wife Brigitte plan to provide the American court with scientific and photographic evidence to refute rumors that the First Lady was allegedly born a man. Their lawyer Tom Clere stated on a BBC podcast that the couple will submit relevant materials as part of a defamation lawsuit against influencer Candice Owens. She publicly promoted the version that Brigitte Macron is allegedly a transgender woman.

According to Clere, the First Lady perceived these statements as "extremely offensive" and considers them a distraction for the president.

"When your family is attacked, it is exhausting. The President — not an exception," the lawyer emphasized. He confirmed that the Macron side is ready to provide "expert scientific testimony" to prove the falsehood of the accusations. Photos of Brigitte during pregnancy and with children may also be used in the case.

Rumors about Brigitte Macron's gender appeared several years ago in online communities, notably after videos by French bloggers Amandine Rua and Natasha Rey in 2021. In 2024, the couple won a defamation case in France against Rua and Rey, but in 2025, the decision was overturned on appeal on free speech grounds. The Macrons filed a re-complaint. In July 2025, they filed a lawsuit against influencer Candice Owens in the USA, accusing her of ignoring verified facts and spreading conspiracy theories.

Owens' lawyers demand that the lawsuit be dismissed, arguing that the case has no relation to Delaware, where her companies are registered, and that proceedings in this court would be a "significant financial burden" for her. Owens previously stated that she believes in the truth of her words and considers this a realization of her right to free expression.

Emmanuel Macron explained why he decided to go to court:

"This is a matter of honor! It’s absurd. It’s a person who knew she was spreading falsehoods and did so consciously, with the intent to harm, in favor of ideology and in connection with the far right."
