Macron called on Europe to make urgent economic decisions due to pressure from China and the US
During a joint press conference with Friedrich Merz at an informal summit of EU leaders in Alden Bizen, Belgium, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe must act quickly and decisively in the economic sphere.
According to him, global competition has intensified and pressure on the European Union has increased. Macron mentioned unfair competition from China, tariffs imposed by the Americans and threats of coercive practices. In these circumstances, he stressed, Europe must respond in the short term.
The French leader noted that conclusions have already been drawn, particularly following Mario Draghi's report and other analytical materials. Now, he said, it is time for concrete steps.
Macron stressed the importance of the Franco-German agreement on the Capital Markets Union. Among other priorities, he mentioned risk diversification, expanding partnerships and protecting European advantages in critical sectors.
The French president stressed that EU leaders must agree on clear and practical decisions by June in order to strengthen Europe's position in the face of global economic competition.
