Marco Rubio has stated that there are more than 5,000 Russian military casualties every week in the war against Ukraine
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that Russia is losing more than 5,000 troops every week in the war against Ukraine. He made this remark, citing new data obtained by Washington on the course of the fighting.
According to Rubio, the scale of the losses is extremely high. He noted that this conflict may be one of the few in history where the number of military fatalities exceeds the number of wounded.
The Secretary of State emphasised that US President Donald Trump is seeking an end to the war so that “people stop dying” and “people stop being killed”. He also stated that Trump wants Ukraine to be able to live in peace, for its citizens to return home and rebuild the country, and for Russian soldiers not to be dying “at a rate of 5,000 a week on the battlefield”.
At the same time, Rubio emphasised that Ukraine is also suffering significant losses. He referred to the deaths of military personnel and civilians, as well as Russian strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
According to the US Secretary of State, both sides should have an interest in ending the war. He noted that Donald Trump’s administration continues to work on finding possible compromises and remains engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the hostilities to an end.
Rubio’s comments came after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of regional events in the Philippine capital, Manila.
