Yet another war crime by the Russians: the occupiers shot a captured Ukrainian soldier
This was announced by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The crime took place on 13 July 2026 at around 14:42 near the village of Yalta (Komar Community). Russian occupiers took a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman prisoner.
According to the investigation, following an interrogation, one of the occupiers gave the order to execute the Ukrainian soldier. After that, another Russian shot the prisoner with a firearm.
Law enforcement agencies have now launched a pre-trial investigation into the commission of a war crime resulting in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
“The killing of prisoners of war constitutes a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime,” the prosecutor’s office emphasised.
Investigators are carrying out urgent investigative measures to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify the Russian servicemen involved in the shooting.
