Український фільм «Мавка. Справжній міф» розширює міжнародний прокат. Стрічка з’явиться одразу у 85 містах Австрії та Німеччини вже з 5 березня.

The popular Ukrainian film "Mavka. The True Myth" will be released in 85 cities across Europe.

The film will be shown in cinemas in Germany and Austria in Ukrainian with German subtitles. Screenings will start on 5 March.

In Germany, the film will be shown in 80 cities, and in Austria in five. Later, it is also planned to be released in Canada, the United States, the Czech Republic, Israel, the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovakia, and Spain. The start dates for screenings in these countries will be announced later.

What the film is about

The events unfold in modern Ukraine and are based on Ukrainian mythology. According to the plot, once every four years, nymphs and mermaids come out into the human world.

A group of biology students accidentally find themselves in a mysterious territory during an expedition. One of them, Lukyan, meets a nymph without suspecting her true nature.

The story centres on forbidden love. According to legend, Mavka must kill the boy in the Dark Lake, but instead she falls in love with him. Other mystical creatures try to bring her back to the "dark side".

Cast

Producer Iryna Kostyuk noted that the film deliberately focused on young actors. Most of them are making their film debut. Among the well-known faces are Vyacheslav Dovzhenko, his son Ivan Dovzhenko, and Eduard Polyakov.

The European release will be another stage in the film's international life and an opportunity for the Ukrainian diaspora and foreign audiences to become more familiar with contemporary Ukrainian cinema and mythology. The film's team promises to announce further expansion of the screening geography separately.
