Meta is significantly scaling up its project to build data centres in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The company is increasing the site’s power capacity to 5 GW and is allocating an additional $1 billion towards infrastructure development.

This has been reported by Meta’s press office.

The planned capital investment exceeds $50 billion, and the facility’s total generating capacity will reach 5 GW.

This initiative significantly exceeds the initial parameters: it was previously expected that the facility’s capacity would be 2 GW, with an estimated cost of $27 billion.

In addition, the company will allocate $1 billion to modernising local infrastructure, including the road network and utility systems.

Construction of the facility, which began in late 2024, is being financed and developed as part of a partnership with Blue Owl Capital.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that the EU is demanding changes to Facebook and Instagram due to addiction concerns.
