The Ministry of Digital Transformation has set a date for the phasing out of 3G in Ukraine
This was revealed by Stanislav Prybyk, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for Digital Infrastructure Development, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
He explained that the switch-off of 3G is not unique to Ukraine.
“Operators around the world are gradually phasing out 3G, as this technology is now considered obsolete. It uses resources less efficiently and is unable to provide the speeds and connection quality that users expect today. Instead, the same frequencies are being reconfigured for 4G, which allows for increased speeds, reduced latency and improved connection stability,” said Prybyitko.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation has agreed a deadline with mobile operators: 3G will be completely switched off by 1 January 2031. Previously, the media had reported a date of 31 December 2030.
“We have deliberately set such a long transition period so that this switch goes completely unnoticed by you. However, 5G does not mean that 4G will disappear. On the contrary, 4G is the foundation for the roll-out of 5G,” explained the official.
