On 27 February, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, UNESCO and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document aims to preserve the Church of All Saints above the Economic Gate.

This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The Church of All Saints above the Economic Gate is part of the World Heritage Site "Kyiv: Saint Sophia Cathedral and Related Monastic Buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra".

The memorandum was signed by Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Ivan Verbytsky, Head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, and Director General of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" Maxim Ostapenko.

The document provides for UNESCO assistance in preparing for the restoration of the monument and carrying out further work.

Experts will conduct detailed studies of the condition of the building and its monumental paintings, prepare scientific and project documentation, and determine priority measures for the preservation of the site. Part of the work is planned to be carried out in the coming months.

Before the restoration begins, the project will undergo an international technical assessment by experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites in accordance with the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
