The Moldovan government will not extend the licensing regime for Ukrainian grain imports and returns to standard trade rules, while maintaining enhanced market monitoring

The Moldovan government has refused to extend the licensing regime for grain imports from Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture Liudmyla Catlabuga. According to her, the current legislation no longer allows to prolong this temporary measure. This was reported by The Public with reference to Point.md.

According to the Law No. 170, the mechanism of grain import licensing does not provide for its extension. In this regard, the country is returning to the normal import regime. At the same time, the authorities plan to maintain tight control over the situation on the grain market to be able to respond quickly in case of serious imbalances.

The Minister said that during the period of restrictions, a special commission under the Ministry of Agriculture issued about 25 licences for the import of various types of grain crops. In the future, monitoring will include full declaration of import volumes, as well as products intended for export.

The agency emphasises that the market can function stably if the declarations are correct. At the same time, the government declares its readiness for urgent intervention in case of threats to the domestic agricultural sector. Earlier, the Moldovan Farmers' Association warned that the cancellation of licensing could have a negative impact on the local grain market.
