German Foreign Ministry: No one is interested in chaos or the collapse of Iran
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that military action by the US and Israel against Iran should not lead to chaos in the Middle East, as this would have serious consequences for Europe. He made this statement during a press conference in Israel alongside Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, according to Deutsche Welle.
According to Wadephul, no one is interested in a civil war or the collapse of Iran.
"No one can be interested in chaos, civil war or the collapse of Iran. The consequences of this will be significant, and we will also feel them in Europe," he said.
The minister stressed that Iran's territorial integrity must be preserved.
At the same time, the German Foreign Minister agreed that Iran's military nuclear and ballistic programmes must be eliminated and that Tehran must stop supporting proxy groups in the region.
According to Wadefoul, the region needs a new peaceful order that will guarantee the security of the states and peoples of the Middle East, as well as the security of maritime trade routes, which are of key importance to the global economy.
Wadefoul became the first European foreign minister to visit Israel since the start of the military operation against Iran.
After his visit to Israel, he travelled to Saudi Arabia and plans to continue his tour of Middle Eastern countries affected by the fighting that began in late February. Details of the itinerary are not being officially disclosed for security reasons.
