A tragic incident occurred in the Cherkasy region during the arrest of a person wanted for murder. The suspect opened fire on law enforcement officers. Special police forces eliminated the attacker, but the operation cost the lives of four police officers.

Police Major Serhiy Safronov, commander of the rapid response platoon of the special police company, Police Major Oleksandr Florinsky, deputy commander of the same company, Senior Lieutenant Denis Polovinka, inspector of the rapid response platoon, and Major Volodymyr Boiko, community police officer of the Cherkasy District Police Department. All of them were combatants.

During the special operation, community police officer Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Shpak was wounded. He is receiving medical attention and his condition is stable.

The tragedy in Cherkasy region has once again demonstrated that the security of the state depends on the daily risks taken by law enforcement officers not only at the front, but also in the rear. During arrests and special operations, police officers are effectively working in combat conditions, where every call-out can cost them their lives.

The National Police of Ukraine expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasised that the memory of their feat will be honoured. May the fallen law enforcement officers rest in peace.
