The National Bank has fined Ukrposhta 255,000 hryvnias
This is stated in a press release from the NBU.
Ukrposhta has been fined for failing to submit, within the prescribed time limit, the information and documents requested from the company.
The postal service is now required to pay the fine within five working days.
This is not the central bank’s first complaint against Ukrposhta: as recently as last December, the company received a written warning for breaching requirements, particularly regarding the organisation of statistical reporting.
In March 2025, the Rada backed a law to establish a postal bank based on ‘Ukrposhta’, although the NBU had warned that the company lacked sufficient capitalisation for this.
The government announced that Ukrposhta would acquire shares in the First Investment Bank, which previously belonged to Russian oligarchs, and thus establish a postal bank.
The head of Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilianskyi, had previously stated that this would mean, “for the first time in Ukraine’s history”, banking services would be available across 100% of the country’s territory.
The idea of creating a ‘postal bank’ has been circulating in the country for about five years. As far back as 2023, the National Bank of Ukraine was opposed to the postal bank and argued that ‘everyone should stick to their own business’.
