Netflix has officially begun filming a new series set in the world of The Sharp Cartoonists. The first shots from the set appeared shortly after production began on 4 March.

The Sharp Caps franchise is getting a new series. Netflix confirmed that filming will begin on 4 March, and the first photos from the set have already appeared online.

Filming began in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, an industrial town in the UK that is well suited to recreating the atmosphere of a post-war country. For several days, the film crew worked at the historic Queens Theatre.

After that, the main process is planned to be moved to Birmingham to the Digbeth Loc studio, where a significant part of the original series was previously filmed. Some of the scenes were also filmed on Jenkins Street.

The published photos show actors in period costumes and vintage cars from the 1950s. Among the details are a man with a typewriter case and a Birmingham Herald notice board with a headline about "three injured in a fire."

The new series, already dubbed "Peaky 1954" online, is set to run for two seasons. The events take place several years after the finale of the original show, in Birmingham, which is recovering from the bombings of World War II.

According to the plot, a new generation of the Shelby family finds itself at the centre of a struggle for control over a large-scale city reconstruction project.

As described in the announcement, "the race for ownership of the massive project turns into a brutal competition of mythical proportions in a city of unprecedented opportunities and dangers."

Three actors were recognised in photos from the set: Ciarán Hinds, Fintagh Shevlin and Jacob Wright. Some of them appeared in distinctive headgear, which may indicate a new generation of the Shelby clan.

It is not yet known whether Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, will appear in the series. The question of his son, played by Barry Keoghan in a parallel project, also remains open.

This is the film Peaky Blinders: Immortal, which is already showing in selected cinemas and will be released on streaming platforms on 20 March.

It is also currently unknown whether the new series will be a continuation of the main show as the seventh and eighth seasons, or whether it will be a separate project.

The release is expected to take place in late 2026 or early 2027.

In addition, the studio is developing another project in this universe — a prequel about Polly Grey, the matriarch of the Shelby clan, played by Helen McCrory in the series.
