NMT-2026: Can the test result be appealed?
If a technical problem arises during the test, you must report it immediately to the examination centre.
It is not possible to appeal against the NMT result on the grounds of unsatisfactory marks, as all questions are marked automatically. However, a candidate may submit an appeal if there were technical problems or procedural irregularities during the test.

Tetyana Vakulenko, director of the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment, spoke about this in an interview with “Glavkom”.

According to Tetyana Vakulenko, there is no separate appeal process for the NMT results.

She explained that it is not possible to appeal against the result because all test questions are marked automatically.

Unlike the External Independent Testing (EIT) in previous years, the NMT does not contain any open-ended questions that are marked by a human examiner. Therefore, all participants are subject to the same marking criteria.

When results can be reviewed

The Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA) may review the situation if the issue is not dissatisfaction with the marks but a possible error in the test question itself.

If candidates or parents report an error in the question, the Centre will check how the question appeared on screen.

If the error is confirmed, decisions will be made in favour of all participants who may have been affected.

What to do in the event of a technical fault

If a technical problem arises during the test, it must be reported immediately to the examination centre.

The candidate must raise their hand and speak to the invigilator so that an attempt can be made to resolve the problem on the spot.

If the technical fault cannot be resolved, you must then submit a statement regarding a breach of the examination procedure.

When can you submit a complaint regarding a breach of procedure?

A complaint may be lodged in cases where technical or organisational issues may have affected the conduct of the NMT.

This includes, in particular, computer malfunctions, software issues or other circumstances in the examination room that prevented you from sitting the test normally.

It is important to report the problem immediately, without leaving the test centre.

Why is it difficult to organise more centres?

The Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment explains that the NMT format takes into account security risks, logistics and the capabilities of partners.

In particular, temporary examination centres are not being set up directly within the Kherson region due to the danger involved.

For applicants from the Zaporizhzhia region, Zaporizhzhia remains the nearest safe location to sit the test.

What about testing abroad?

There are also restrictions on organising the NMT outside Ukraine.

According to Vakulenko, overseas partners are not always able to provide premises and equipment for an extended period.

Furthermore, for families, the logistics of travelling abroad can be costly, as it is often necessary for not only the child but also an accompanying adult to travel.

What applicants need to know

An unsatisfactory NMT result is not in itself grounds for an appeal or for retaking the test during the main session.

If a technical or procedural problem occurred during the test, you must raise the issue immediately at the examination centre.

As reported by ThePublic, applicants who failed the NMT or were dissatisfied with their result may retake the test next year. Retaking the exam to improve one’s marks within the current admissions cycle is not permitted.
