New Zealand has imposed sanctions on Russian cyber entities
This was announced by New Zealand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters.
New Zealand has introduced a new package of sanctions against individuals and entities supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The restrictions apply to 20 individuals and companies. According to the New Zealand government, they include those who assist the Kremlin in its hybrid war, support Russian cybercrime and spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda aimed at justifying Moscow’s illegal aggression.
“Those who abuse online platforms to support Russia’s war against Ukraine will face real consequences, including sanctions,” said Winston Peters.
Separately, New Zealand is imposing sanctions against a provider of alternative payment services. According to the country’s government, its services were widely used to circumvent sanctions against Russia.
“We are targeting the payment infrastructure that has helped fund Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Peters noted.
The new sanctions also apply to individuals and entities that support the Russian military-industrial complex.
In addition, individuals and entities from North Korea and Iran have been targeted, as New Zealand alleges they are supporting the Russian military.
This is New Zealand’s 35th package of sanctions against Russia since the sanctions law came into force in March 2022.
In total, New Zealand has imposed restrictions on over 2,000 individuals, companies and vessels. The country is also applying trade restrictions against Russia.
As reported by ThePublic, Australia and New Zealand have joined the PURL and announced over $70 million in aid for Ukraine
