New Controversy: Trump Publicly Insults Journalist at Press Conference
During a briefing in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a verbal clash with a journalist after she asked why he continues to blame Joe Biden for the situation with Afghan migrants, despite some members of his own administration previously stating that proper vetting had been conducted.
According to ThePublic.info, citing data from AFP, the journalist asked whether Trump had any evidence to support his claims. In response, the president interrupted her and said:
“Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person? Because they let them in.”
Trump then showed reporters a photo of a U.S. military aircraft filled with Afghans fleeing the country after the Taliban returned to power. He suggested that among those who entered the United States may have been people who “should not be in this country,” adding that the journalist asked her question simply because she was “a stupid person.”
The exchange took place amid the recent shooting in Washington, not far from the White House, in which a member of the U.S. National Guard was killed and another was seriously injured.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal.
According to his relatives, Lakanwal arrived in the United States in September 2021 after serving ten years in the Afghan army, where he cooperated with U.S. special forces. Following the incident, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) temporarily suspended the processing of all immigration requests related to Afghan nationals.
ThePublic.info also notes that Trump had earlier announced his intention to “permanently stop” migration from all “third world countries,” and his administration is reportedly considering additional restrictions.
