On 21 May, the third Thursday in May, Ukraine celebrates Vyshyvanka Day.
In the run-up to this holiday, sales and exhibitions of traditional clothing are traditionally held. Ukrainians come to work wearing embroidered shirts and also post patriotic photos of themselves in embroidered shirts.
Vyshyvanka Day is dedicated to Ukrainian national dress and a cultural tradition that remains one of Ukraine’s most recognisable symbols.

This holiday is dedicated to the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven after his resurrection.

If it rained on this day, a bountiful mushroom harvest was expected.
Clear weather was considered a sign of a good wheat harvest.
If swifts had not yet arrived by this day, a late summer was expected.
Dew on the grass foreshadowed a rapid warming.
If it turned cold, according to folk observations, the frosts could last for at least another week.
What not to do on 21 May
On Ascension Day, the Church advises against quarrelling, envying others, judging others, or refusing to offer help and support.
It is best to postpone heavy physical labour. At the same time, it is acceptable to carry out minor household chores.
It is also not recommended to do needlework.
According to folk beliefs, 21 May was considered an unlucky day for weddings and matchmaking.
