In Kirov, Russia, the sanctioned ‘AVITEK’ factory caught fire following explosions (VIDEO)
On Friday morning, 24 July, explosions were heard in the Russian city of Kirov. According to reports from Telegram monitoring channels, a fire subsequently broke out on the premises of JSC ‘Vyatsk Machine-Building Enterprise “AVITEK”’.
Residents of the city reported the explosions at around 7 am. An analysis of photos and videos published by eyewitnesses, carried out by the channel, indicates that a fire broke out on the company’s premises.
According to official and open Russian sources, ‘AVITEK’ manufactures products for military, dual-use and civilian purposes. The plant manufactures air defence systems, aircraft components, ejection seats for pilot rescue, aircraft cargo-handling systems, winches and other equipment.
According to the ‘War & Sanctions’ project run by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the plant specialises in the production of surface-to-air guided missiles, target missiles, ejection seats, aircraft cargo-handling systems and other products. The company is also involved in the production of ‘Tor’ anti-aircraft missile systems and is subject to sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the US and other states.
Some sources also note that the company is involved in the production of components for the Kh-101 and Kh-59M2/Kh-59M2A missiles, as well as manufacturing, repairing and modernising K 36DM ejection seats for Su-34 and Su-57 aircraft.
Denis Shtilerman, co-founder of the Ukrainian defence company Fire Point, hinted on the social media platform X that FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ cruise missiles may have been used during the strike. There is no official confirmation of this information.
