The 98th Academy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles on the night of 16 March. The film *One Battle After Another* won Best Picture, Jessie Buckley won Best Actress, and Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony took place on the night of 15–16 March in Los Angeles, USA. The top prize – for Best Picture – went to the film “One Battle After Another”. Its director, Paul Thomas Anderson, also won in the “Best Director” category.

In the main acting categories, the winners were Jessie Buckley for her role in “Gunneth” and Michael B. Jordan for his role in “Sinners”. The award for Best Supporting Actress went to Amy Madigan for “Weapon”, and for Best Supporting Actor to Sean Penn for “One Battle After Another”. This is Penn’s third acting Oscar.

In the technical and creative categories, “One Battle After Another” also won for editing, whilst Cassandra Kulukundis received a statuette for casting – this was the first time this category had been awarded in the history of the Oscars. “The Sinners” secured wins for Ryan Coogler for Best Original Screenplay, Ludwig Jöransson for Best Original Score, and Otam Durald Arkapo for Best Cinematography. She became the first woman to win this award.

“Frankenstein” won in the categories “Best Costume Design”, “Best Makeup and Hairstyling” and “Best Production Design”. The award for Best Visual Effects went to “Avatar: The Way of Fire”, and for Best Sound to “F1: The Movie”.

The Best Animated Feature Film award went to “K-Pop Demon Hunters”, whilst the song “Golden” from the same film won in the “Best Original Song” category. “Sentimental Value” was named Best International Feature Film, and “Mr Nobody vs Putin” was named Best Documentary Film.

In the “Best Short Film” category this year, there was a tie: two films won – “Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva”. “The Girl Who Cried Pearls” was named Best Animated Short Film, and “All the Empty Rooms” was named Best Documentary Short Film.
