“Оскар-2026” увійшов в історію: у США зафіксували рідкісну нічию
This is reported by The New York Times and the American media outlets covering the ceremony.
At the 2026 Oscars, a rare situation for the awards ceremony occurred – in the ‘Best Live-Action Short Film’ category, the Academy awarded the prize to two films simultaneously. The statuettes went to ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva’ and ‘The Singers’.
This is only the seventh tie in the entire history of the Academy Awards. The previous such result was in 2013, when “Skyfall” and “Zero Dark Thirty” won in the Best Sound Editing category.
One of the most famous ties in the history of the awards is considered to be the result from 1969, when the Oscar for Best Actress was shared by Katharine Hepburn for “The Lion in Winter” and Barbra Streisand for “Funny Girl”.
Other Oscar tie-scores were recorded in 1995 – also in the Best Live-Action Short Film category – in 1987 – among feature-length documentaries – in 1950 – among short documentaries – and in 1932 in the acting category. Back then, under the rules of the time, the award was also given to the nominee who trailed the winner by fewer than three votes.
During the ceremony, the winners didn’t immediately realise what was happening either. Sam Davis, director of “The Singers”, admitted from the stage that he didn’t even know such an outcome was possible at the Oscars. The co-directors of “Two People Exchanging Saliva”, Natalie Mustia and Alexander Sing, also stated that they were delighted to share the award.
