Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao is raising funds for a Kharkiv animal rescue charity
Zhao shared this on social media.
The director has announced an auction, the winner of which will have the chance to chat with her via video call for an hour.
“I’m delighted to invite you for a virtual cup of tea. All proceeds will be donated to the wonderful Animal Rescue Kharkiv charity. Your bid supports a non-profit organisation based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, which rescues and cares for animals affected by the war,” wrote Chloe.
The organisation “Animal Rescue Kharkiv” was founded in 2016. Initially, volunteers rescued animals only from Kharkiv and its surroundings, but with the start of the full-scale invasion, they expanded their reach and are now evacuating animals from Donetsk and Sumy regions, and travelled to Kherson during the flooding of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station.
In Kharkiv, the organisation has a clinic, a rehabilitation centre for cats and fish, a facility for temporary dog boarding, and several other sites across the city for animal care.
Chloé Zhao is a 43-year-old American director, screenwriter and producer of Chinese origin.
In 2020, she won an Oscar for Best Picture for the film ‘Nomadland’. And in 2026, she won a Golden Globe for the film ‘Hamnet’.
