Carbon monoxide poisoning in Kirovohrad region: rescuers remind people of safety rules
In the village of Zvirivka, Novo-Ukrainian district, Kirovograd region, a 61-year-old woman suffered carbon monoxide poisoning. This was reported by the State Emergency Service (SES). The victim was taken to a medical facility, where her condition is being monitored by doctors.
The SES reminds that carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous because it has no smell, colour or taste, but even in small concentrations it can cause severe poisoning or pose a mortal threat. Most often, such cases occur due to violations of the rules for operating stoves, boilers, gas columns or ventilation.
Rescuers urge people to follow simple but critically important safety rules. In particular, it is necessary to regularly check the condition of stoves and chimneys, not to close ventilation openings, not to use faulty or homemade heaters, and not to leave heating appliances unattended while in operation. If symptoms of poisoning appear — headache, dizziness, nausea or weakness — immediately open the windows, go out into the fresh air and call an ambulance.
