Fuel prices in Ukraine are likely to rise further. Sergey Kuyun, a fuel market expert and director of the consultancy firm “A-95”, has stated that petrol and diesel prices could rise by a further 4–5 hryvnias per litre due to the situation on the global oil market and the gap between wholesale and retail prices.

Serhiy Kuyun made this statement during a broadcast on Den.LIVE. Data on current average fuel prices are also provided by the Ministry of Finance and Delo.ua, citing the A-95 Consulting Group.

Fuel prices in Ukraine could rise by a further 4–5 UAH per litre. According to Serhiy Kuyun, further price rises are likely, although they should not be as sharp as they were in the spring.

The expert explained that the situation depends on the dynamics of global oil prices and the wholesale fuel market. He said that the current wholesale price of petrol is around 70 UAH per litre, whilst the average retail price is around 72 UAH.

Kuyun noted that the normal margin for the market is around 3 UAH per litre. The current difference between the purchase price and the retail price, in his estimation, is insufficient for the stable operation of the business.

As a result, some operators are operating with minimal or negative margins. According to the expert, this is precisely what creates the conditions for further retail price adjustments.

How much does fuel cost now

According to data from the Ministry of Finance as of 4 May 2026, the average price of A-95 petrol in Ukraine was 72.76 UAH per litre, A-95 premium – 76.82 UAH per litre, diesel fuel – 88.40 UAH per litre, and autogas – 48.50 UAH per litre. The figures do not include the occupied territories of Crimea, Sevastopol and parts of Donbas.

On 5 May 2026, Delo.ua, citing the ‘A-95’ Consulting Group, reported that the average price of A-95 had risen to 72.88 UAH per litre, A-95+ to 77.02 UAH per litre, diesel fuel to 88.53 UAH per litre, and autogas cost 48.47 UAH per litre.

Prices may be higher at large petrol station chains. According to UNIAN on 5 May, the largest Ukrainian chains were selling A-95 petrol at an average of 74.2 UAH per litre, diesel at 88.8 UAH per litre, and autogas at 48.5 UAH per litre.

Why prices may rise

Kuyun attributes the potential price rise to the fact that the retail market has not yet fully passed on the increase in wholesale prices. If the wholesale price of petrol is already approaching 70 UAH per litre, whilst the average retail price hovers around 72 UAH, operators have too little margin to cover costs and maintain a normal profit margin.

Under such conditions, some petrol stations may raise prices to restore the profitability of sales. At the same time, the expert does not predict such a sharp jump as in the spring, but speaks specifically of a likely gradual adjustment.

Earlier, in a comment to Channel 24, Serhiy Kuyun also noted that the situation on Ukraine’s fuel market remains difficult, as the country is dependent on imports and prices on international markets. According to him, a significant drop in fuel prices should not be expected in May.

As reported by ThePublic, former Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin warned that the current price surge is only the beginning of a global crisis triggered by the war in the Middle East
