First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko became head of the presidential party after the 17 December congress

The Servant of the People party elected First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Korniyenko as its new chairman at a congress on 17 December. This was announced by the head of the faction, David Arakhamia, and the faction's spokesperson, Yulia Paliychuk.

Arakhamia thanked the previous head of the party, Olena Shulyak, for her work and wished Kornienko success in his new position. Shulyak's term of office ended after her second term as party leader.

Oleksandr Kornienko has been one of the key functionaries of the Servant of the People since its inception. In 2019, he headed the party's electoral headquarters and was number seven on the electoral list for the parliamentary elections. In October 2021, Kornienko was elected the first Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.

He had already led the party in 2019, but resigned in November 2021, explaining the decision by the need to focus on reforming the work of the parliament. Now, Kornienko is returning to lead the party during a period of full-scale war and preparation for post-war political changes.
