Suspilne, citing sources within law enforcement agencies, reports that the target of the attack was Andriy Yusov.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Kyiv who, according to the investigation, was planning the murder of one of the heads of a structural unit within the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence on the orders of the Russian security services. According to media sources, the individual in question is Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. Suspilne, citing sources within law enforcement, states that the target of the assassination attempt was Andriy Yusov.

Law enforcement officers have detained a 38-year-old Kyiv resident who, according to the investigation, was planning a contract killing of a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

The National Police have not officially named the official. However, Suspilne’s sources within law enforcement have confirmed that the individual in question is Andriy Yusov.

According to the police, the detainee had previously been prosecuted for property offences. The investigation believes he was recruited by Russian special services.

What the Russian agent was supposed to do

According to the case file, the man was to organise a contract killing.

According to the investigation, he studied the GUR official’s travel routes, his daily schedule, place of residence, means of transport and the surrounding infrastructure.

Law enforcement officials claim that the Russian agent planned to use an FPV drone for the murder.

To this end, he began looking for an accomplice with drone piloting skills. OBOZ.UA, citing law enforcement sources, reports that the drone in question was an FPV drone of the ‘Zhduun’ type.

How much was promised for the murder

According to the National Police, Russian handlers promised the recruited Kyiv resident $100,000 to carry out the crime.

Of this sum, he had allegedly already received a $10,000 advance.

After the preparations for the assassination attempt were documented, the man was detained by operatives from the Criminal Investigation Department, the Criminal Police and investigators, with the support of special police units.

What charges were brought

The detainee was informed of the charges under Part 1 of Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – preparation for premeditated murder for financial gain.

The penalty under this article provides for 10 to 15 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The National Police noted that the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying other individuals who may be involved in the preparation of the assassination attempt.

What is known about previous threats against Yusov

Andriy Yusov has already been mentioned in reports of attempts by Russian special services to organise contract killings of Ukrainian officials.

In February 2026, the Prosecutor General reported that Andriy Yusov, a representative for strategic communications at the Main Intelligence Directorate, was among the targets of a network of hitmen.

Yusov himself has previously stated that this is not the first time his name has appeared on hit lists.

What is important

Officially, the National Police reported that a plot was being hatched to kill one of the heads of a structural unit within the Main Intelligence Directorate, but did not name him.

The media cite Andriy Yusov’s name, citing sources within law enforcement agencies. Therefore, for legally accurate reporting, it is important to distinguish between official police information and data from journalistic sources.
