The police announced an increase in penalties for traffic violations
Drivers and pedestrians must prepare for changes.

This was reported by the First Deputy Head of the Department of Patrol Police of Ukraine, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, in a publication for «Ukrainian Truth».

He noted that the patrol police have developed a draft law that ensures increased control over drunk driving and announced that a series of the most relevant draft laws are upcoming, which, among other things, were reviewed by the patrol police, with official conclusions and proposals provided for the draft laws regarding:

  • strengthening responsibility for systematic violations of the Traffic Rules. For repeated violations (traffic lights, overtaking, pedestrian crossings), larger fines and license revocation will be imposed;

  • a fine for violating the requirement for mandatory winter/all-season tires will reach up to 8,500 UAH, with license revocation for repeated violations;

  • regulation of personal electric transport will be introduced. Clear rules and responsibilities for electric scooter users, etc., will be defined;

  • regarding speed limits, the "non-fined threshold" will be lowered from 20 to 10 km/h, with a clear gradation of fines for speed violations;

  • the use of reflective elements for pedestrians will become mandatory during dark hours or in conditions of insufficient visibility;

  • alternative initiatives include a "points system" for offenders and the possibility for citizens to report violations.

    Additionally, Biloshytskyi announced that in terms of strengthening sanctions (fines), the following innovations are being considered:

    • drift — fine up to 17,000 UAH and license revocation;

    • exceeding noise levels — fine up to 34,000 UAH;

    • driving under the influence — fine up to 51,000 UAH, license revocation, and vehicle confiscation;

    • driving while intoxicated during martial law — the possibility of confiscating the vehicle for the benefit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
