Poland has provided Kyiv and the surrounding region with 400 generators following attacks on the power grid.
Poland has sent 400 generators of various types from government reserves to Kyiv and settlements around the capital. Piotr Lukasiewicz, Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine, announced the shipment of aid, noting that the equipment is already on its way to the Ukrainian capital and surrounding communities.
The delivery took place against the backdrop of intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. In recent days, strikes on critical infrastructure have left about 60 per cent of buildings in Kyiv without electricity, heating and water supply. The situation was exacerbated by severe frosts, with air temperatures in the region dropping to minus 20 degrees.
At the same time, a nationwide campaign to raise funds for generators for Ukraine, called "Warmth from Poland for Kyiv," is underway in Poland. In six days, the campaign raised over 5.35 million zlotys, equivalent to approximately 1.27 million euros. Almost 43,000 people joined the fundraiser, making it one of the largest examples of public support for Ukraine this winter.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga thanked Polish society for its active participation in the aid effort. He recalled that back in 2022, Poland set an example of action in times of war and crisis, and now it is once again confirming its status as one of the leaders in international support for Ukraine.
