Lyubov Kolesnikova, an Honoured Artist of Ukraine and actress at the Chernihiv Drama Theatre, has died. She was best known to a wide audience for her role as Baba Palazhka in the TV series *Catching Kaidash*. She was 74.

The news of the actress’s death was announced by Oksana Tunik-Fryz, director and artistic director of the T. Shevchenko Chernihiv Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre.

Lyubov Kolesnikova passed away on the morning of 7 May. According to Oksana Tunik-Fryz, the actress had recently been battling a serious illness.

The theatre reported that she passed away under medical supervision, surrounded by the care and support of her colleagues.

The funeral service for Lyubov Kolesnikova will take place on 8 May at the Chernihiv Drama Theatre. The exact time of the ceremony is to be announced later.

Lyubov Kolesnikova was born on 1 July 1951 in the village of Ostriv in the Zhytomyr region. Her interest in the stage emerged in childhood: at the age of 13, she played her first role in a folk theatre.

After school, the aspiring actress trained at the Kyiv Variety and Circus Studio.

Lyubov Kolesnikova began her professional career in 1971 on the stage of the Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky Drama Theatre in Nizhyn.

In March 1978, she was invited to join the Chernihiv Drama Theatre. It was with this theatre that most of her creative life was associated – she worked there until her final days.

Over the course of her career, Kolesnikova created over a hundred stage characters in productions of various genres.

Among her roles were Juno in Ivan Kotlyarevsky’s *The Aeneid*, Chanel in Robert Thomas’s play *Eight Loving Women*, by Robert Thomas, Odarka in “The Pharaohs” by Oleksii Kolomiiets, Korobochka from “Dead Souls”, and Gordylia from “The Gypsy Aza” by Mykhailo Starytskyi.

Lyubov Kolesnikova gained particular recognition outside the theatre following her role as Baba Palazhka in the TV series “Catching Kaidash”. It was this role that made her a familiar face to television audiences.

Lyubov Kolesnikova held the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine. At the Chernihiv Drama Theatre, she was known as a leading stage artist.
