More than 35,000 Hasidic Jews have already arrived in Uman, Cherkasy region, to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, on a telethon broadcast.

According to him, the arrival of pilgrims to Ukraine through the border with the EU and Moldova has been observed for several weeks, but the majority arrived in the last five days.

«According to our estimates, more than 35,000 Hasidic pilgrims have entered Ukraine over these few weeks, most of whom traveled in organized groups. There have also been refusals of entry,» said Demchenko.

This year, the Rosh Hashanah holiday will be celebrated from September 22 to 24. In Uman, there is the grave of the tzadik (righteous) Nachman, the founder of the so-called Breslov branch of Hasidism, which is one of the most revered shrines and a pilgrimage site for followers of this branch. All Jews of this Hasidic movement consider it their duty to visit at least once in their lifetime the grave of tzadik Nachman and believe that if they meet the New Year during Rosh Hashanah in Uman, it will surely be a happy one for them.
