Putin's position weakens: war against Ukraine undermines Russia's influence in the world
Russian President Vladimir Putin's international position is noticeably weakening against the backdrop of the war against Ukraine and the crises facing Russia's key allies. Analysts note that the fall of regimes or blows to Moscow's partners, particularly in Venezuela, Syria and Iran, expose the Kremlin's limited ability to defend its own geopolitical promises. This was reported by The Public with reference to The Washington Post.
Despite signing strategic partnership agreements with Iran and Venezuela in 2024, Russia has been unable to support its allies at critical moments. According to experts, this has dealt a serious blow to Moscow's reputation as a global player. The situation is complicated by Putin's dependence on pragmatic relations with the new US administration, which limits his response even to actions that directly harm Russian interests.
The Kremlin's weakened position was also evident in its response to international incidents, such as the detention of a Russian tanker under sanctions in the Atlantic and the refutation of Moscow's claims of alleged Ukrainian attacks on targets in the Russian Federation. According to political analysts, such episodes demonstrate that Russian narratives are increasingly not taken seriously even by those who were previously inclined to believe them.
At the same time, the war against Ukraine is becoming increasingly exhausting for Russia. The fighting has been going on for more than 1,400 days, which exceeds the duration of the USSR's participation in World War II. Within the Russian Federation itself, fatigue from the conflict, economic losses and social tensions are growing. Sociological studies record an increase in pessimism and demand for peace, which has not yet been achieved.
Analysts point out that these processes are an important signal for Ukraine. The weakening of Russia's international authority and the disappointment of its allies undermine the Kremlin's ability to put pressure on the international community. At the same time, it is Ukraine's resilience and the support of its partners that remain the key factor reinforcing these trends and bringing the war closer to an end on the terms of international law.
