Iranian president rejects Trump's demand for "unconditional surrender"
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian rejected US President Donald Trump's demand for Tehran's "unconditional surrender," while stating Iran's willingness to seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
He made the remarks during a video address, The Times of Israel reported.
Pezeshkian noted that the US demand for Iran's complete surrender is unacceptable.
"The demand for unconditional surrender is a dream they must take to their graves," the Iranian president said.
At the same time, he recalled that he had previously apologised to neighbouring countries for the strikes inflicted during the escalation and announced the decision of Iran's interim governing council to suspend attacks on neighbouring states.
According to Pezeshkian, this decision will remain in effect provided that no strikes are carried out against Iran from the territories of these countries.
"From now on, we should not attack neighbouring countries or launch missiles at them, unless they attack us. I think we should resolve this through diplomatic means," he said.
The position of the United States
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he was not considering a diplomatic agreement with Iran to end the war.
"There will be no deal with Iran except for unconditional surrender," he wrote on the social network Truth Social.
According to Trump, the US and its allies will continue to work to change the situation in Iran after the emergence of the country's new political leadership.
The American leader added that after that, Iran, in his opinion, will be able to have a "great future."
