Putin has spoken of ending the war and holding talks

What Putin said
Commenting on the war against Ukraine, Putin said: “I think the matter is coming to an end.”
He also stated his readiness to discuss new agreements on security in Europe. According to the Russian dictator, he considers former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to be one of the possible partners for such negotiations.
The statement came after the parade in Moscow
Putin’s speech took place a few hours after the 9 May parade in Moscow. During the event, the Russian leader once again declared Russia’s intention to achieve “victory” in the war against Ukraine.
The Kremlin speaks of a pause in negotiations
The Kremlin also stated that the negotiation process involving the US has now been officially suspended. During his speech, Putin repeated the accusations against the West and NATO that are customary for the Russian authorities. In particular, he claimed that Western countries had allegedly broken their promises not to expand NATO eastwards after the fall of the Berlin Wall and had attempted to draw Ukraine into the European Union’s orbit.
What Trump said
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he would like to see the ceasefire continue. No further details regarding a possible resumption of talks have been reported at this stage.
