Russia has launched a combined strike on several regions of Ukraine

During the night and on the morning of 24 March, Russian forces attacked a number of regions in Ukraine using missiles, drones, artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. The highest number of reports of deaths, injuries and damage came from the Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kherson, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions.

Zaporizhzhia Region

Shortly after midnight, Russian forces launched a combined missile and drone strike on Zaporizhzhia. Fires, destruction and a hit on a block of flats were reported in the city.

Initial reports indicated one person was injured, but the number of casualties later rose to three. It was later revealed that one person had died and seven others had been injured as a result of the attack on Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district.

A fire broke out in a high-rise building at one address, whilst at another, a residential building was partially damaged and subsequently caught fire. Lorries and cars were also ablaze, and the blast wave damaged surrounding buildings. Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 820 strikes on 44 settlements in the region, including five missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia and 20 air strikes on settlements in the region.

Poltava region

Two people were killed as a result of a massive air strike on the Poltava community. Initially, seven people were reported injured, but the number of casualties later rose to 11.

In the city of Poltava and the Poltava district, residential buildings, a hotel and industrial facilities were damaged. Fires broke out following the strikes, which were extinguished by emergency services. Work is ongoing at the sites to clear up the damage, and assistance is being provided to those affected, including support from State Emergency Service psychologists.

Dnipropetrovsk region

The Russian army attacked the Nikopol and Synelnykiv districts more than 20 times using drones and artillery. A 76-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised in a condition of moderate severity.

In the Synelnykivskyi district, the communities of Shakhtarske, Vasylkivka and Slovianska were targeted. A fire broke out there, and private homes and infrastructure were damaged.

In the Nikopol district, Russian forces struck the communities of Nikopol, Myrivka, Marganetsk, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovka. Residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attacks.

Sumy region

Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops shelled 26 settlements in the Sumy region. Four people were injured.

In the Hlukhiv community, a 5-year-old girl suffered an acute stress reaction after a drone strike. Two private homes, one apartment block and a nursery school were damaged.

In the Trostyanets community, a 59-year-old man was injured following a drone strike. In the Sumy community, a 13-year-old boy and his 45-year-old father were injured after a UAV struck a car. A private house was damaged. In the Bilopil community, another private house was damaged.

Kherson region

Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops struck 38 settlements in the region using drones, artillery and aircraft. Eight people were injured as a result of these attacks.

Separately, in the morning, Russian troops fired on the Central District of Kherson using multiple launch rocket systems. Direct hits destroyed at least two private homes and a garage, and damaged homes across an entire neighbourhood.

Rescuers recovered the body of a man showing no signs of life from the rubble of one of the destroyed houses. His identity is being established. A 64-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were also injured. They were diagnosed with concussion, blast injuries and closed head injuries. The previous evening, enemy drones struck one of the disused hotel complexes, where fires broke out on various floors.

Kharkiv region

In the Kharkiv region, a Russian drone struck an electric train travelling from Slatine to Kharkiv. The strike occurred on 24 March at around 05:20, whilst the train was at Slatine station.

According to preliminary data, the Russian army used an FPV drone, which struck a carriage. A 61-year-old passenger was killed at the scene. The train driver and his assistant suffered acute stress reactions.

All relevant services are working at the scene. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the war crime that resulted in the death of a person.
