The Security Service of Ukraine and the police uncovered eight schemes of evading mobilisation in various regions
The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, uncovered eight new schemes for evading mobilisation in various regions of the country. As part of special operations, 16 organisers of the schemes were detained, who, for money, helped conscripts avoid conscription or illegally leave the territory of Ukraine.
According to the SBU, the cost of such "services" ranged from $3,000 to $16,500. In Kharkiv, military counterintelligence detained a contractor who promised to transport conscripts to European Union countries via forest routes in the western regions, using so-called guides from the border area.
In Lviv, the head of a training centre of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was exposed for organising a channel for unauthorised departure from military units. Through acquaintances in the medical service, mobilised persons were issued fictitious referrals for treatment, after which they did not return to their place of service.
In Chernivtsi, law enforcement officers exposed seven people who, through their connections in the TCC, forged documents for fictitious enlistment in military service. In the Khmelnytskyi region, a man was detained for selling certificates of third-degree disability, using his contacts with former members of the MSEC.
In the Zhytomyr region, two current TCC officials and their former colleague removed conscripts from the wanted list in exchange for bribes. In the Vinnytsia region, a 49-year-old unemployed man was detained for using his own car to drive draft dodgers to the border with Moldova and showing them forest routes.
In the Poltava region, a criminal, together with a family doctor, issued fictitious certificates of serious illness of relatives in order to obtain a deferral. In the Donetsk region, an entrepreneur was caught selling forged VLC certificates of unfitness or enrolment in rear units.
All suspects have been notified of their status as suspects under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
