Sybiga held a meeting with the heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Latin American countries
During the first day of his visit to Chile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga held a regional meeting with the heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Latin American countries. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was attended by Ukrainian ambassadors to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Chile. During the meeting, the parties discussed the promotion of Ukraine's national interests in the region.
According to Sybyga, the main task of diplomats is to transform political support into concrete decisions necessary for the state, the wartime economy, Ukrainian exporters and citizens.
The minister stressed that Latin America is an important region for cooperation, as it unites 33 states, about 662 million people and accounts for approximately 8% of global GDP.
Sybiga stressed that Ukraine has a lot to offer to the countries of the region, from the development of mutually beneficial trade to cooperation in the fields of unmanned technologies, digitalisation, energy sustainability and Antarctic research.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to countering Russian propaganda and hybrid threats in the region.
"It is fundamentally important for us to counter Russian propaganda, destructive influence and hybrid threats in the region," the foreign minister said.
The minister also recalled that Ukraine is consistently expanding its diplomatic presence in Latin America. In particular, new embassies have been opened in Panama, Ecuador, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic in recent years.
During his visit to Chile, Sibiga and his wife Tetiana Sibiga also met with the Ukrainian community in the country. As part of an initiative by the Association of Ukrainian Diplomats' Spouses, new books were donated to the Ukrainian book shelf in Chile as part of a project by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
The minister also encouraged Ukrainian youth planning a career in diplomacy to study Spanish and Portuguese in order to develop Ukraine's relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries.
