The Syzran oil refinery in Russia stopped Ukrainian drones and ceased operations
The Syzran oil refinery in Russia stopped processing oil after a night attack by Ukrainian drones. This was reported by sources at Reuters.
The plant stopped operating on 5 December when drones hit the CDU-6 primary processing unit. This is a key production facility, which was already targeted in August, when repairs took two weeks. According to sources, it could now take up to a month to resume operations.
The Ukrainian military said that strikes were carried out on the refinery in Syzran and the port of Temryuk in the Krasnodar region. The attacks are taking place against the backdrop of stalled peace talks and are continuing on both sides, with energy infrastructure becoming one of the main targets.
Last year, the Syzran plant operated below its design capacity — about 90,000 barrels per day. The plant produced 800,000 tonnes of petrol, 1.5 million tonnes of diesel and more than 700,000 tonnes of fuel oil.
The shutdown of the refinery means a reduction in fuel production in the region and could increase pressure on Russia's domestic market, which is already facing disruptions after a series of attacks on energy facilities.
