Temporary switch to distance learning in Lutsk and Rivne
In Lutsk and Rivne, some schoolchildren are being temporarily switched to distance learning. Local authorities attribute this decision to the Easter period and the need to adapt the school timetable to families’ holiday schedules.

This has been reported by local authorities and education officials.

In Rivne, distance learning was introduced on 13 and 14 April. This was announced by Viktor Shakirzyan, secretary of Rivne City Council.

According to him, the decision was agreed upon by the teaching councils of gymnasiums and lyceums, which independently adopted the relevant changes to the organisation of the educational process.

The city authorities explained that this format allows for the holiday period and families’ plans to be taken into account, as many families travel or spend time outside the city during these days.

In Lutsk, distance learning was introduced on 13 April. This was announced by Vitaliy Bondar, Director of the Education Department of the Lutsk City Council.

According to him, the decision was made following a meeting with school heads, as well as a preliminary survey of pupils’ parents.

The city council notes that a significant number of families had planned trips or participation in festive events in advance, so attending classes in person could have been difficult. It

is also specified that in those schools in Lutsk where the curriculum includes lessons on Saturdays, distance learning was in effect on 11 April as well.

Meanwhile, in pre-school institutions, the regular groups will continue to operate. Nurseries will accept children as usual if necessary, provided parents submit a request in advance and confirm the need for attendance.

As reported by ThePublic, from 2026, Ukrainian schoolchildren will study for one year longer. The introduction of 12-year education will be part of far-reaching changes to the education system, which will affect the approach to learning and the preparation of pupils for life.
