Snowfall in eastern Turkey paralyses traffic and cuts off dozens of settlements
Heavy snowfalls and a sharp cold snap have hit the eastern regions of Turkey, causing large-scale disruptions to road traffic. This is reported by The Public with reference to TRT Haber. Due to the bad weather, 22 motorways have been closed, most of them in highland areas.
The most difficult situation is in the province of Van, where snow has completely cut off 17 settlements. Road services are clearing roads and working on key routes, including the Kurubash Pass, where the snowfall was accompanied by strong winds and limited visibility.

In Erzurum and Kars, access to four districts and several villages is closed. In Kars province, some sections of roads have become impassable due to the blizzard, and in Ardaghan, heavy ice and ice on trees and buildings have been reported. The temperature dropped so low that car windows were completely frozen.
Snow-clearing crews are working around the clock, but local authorities warn that the situation may become more complicated due to the ongoing precipitation.
