FILM.UA has released the first teaser for the romantic comedy *The ‘Chervona Ruta’ Train* and officially confirmed Sean Penn’s involvement in the film. Previously, the actor had merely hinted at his appearance in the project, but his participation has now been officially announced.

FILM.UA has released the first teaser for the film *The ‘Chervona Ruta’ Train* and confirmed that Sean Penn will indeed appear in the film. The studio described the participation of the three-time Oscar winner as a special milestone for the project.

One of the leading roles in the film is played by Honoured Artist of Ukraine and BAFTA winner Oleksandr Rudynskyi. The film also stars Stanislav Boklan, Kateryna Kuznetsova, Anna Kuzina, Lilia Rebrik, Mykhailo Khoma, Olesia Samayeva and Yuriy Gorbunov, who also served as one of the producers.

Well-known artists and participants of the “Chervona Ruta” festival were cast in supporting roles. Among them are Iryna Bilyk, Oleksandr Ponomariov, Nataliia Mohylevska and Oleg “Fahot” Mykhailiuta.

At the heart of the plot is the story of former conductor Mykola Ivanovych, played by Stanislav Boklan. Together with the passengers of the legendary train, he embarks on a life-changing journey. For some, it becomes a story of new emotions; for others, an opportunity to rethink relationships; and for others still, a difficult ordeal.

The film is set for wide release in August 2026. The film’s release has been timed to coincide with three significant anniversaries: 35 years of Ukraine’s independence, 55 years of the song “Chervona Ruta”, and 55 years of the cult musical film of the same name.

“The Chervona Ruta Train” is now the third film in a series of romantic comedies about Ukrzaliznytsia trains. The first film – “The Train on 31 December” – featured former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The film is traditionally produced in collaboration with Ukrzaliznytsia. A special “Chervona Ruta” train was prepared for filming, which is already running on Ukrainian tracks and departs from Kyiv Central Station to the tune of the song of the same name.

Earlier, Yuriy Gorbunov and Katya Osadcha had already posted joint photos with Sean Penn, which were likely taken whilst working on the film.
