Spotify will verify artists to distinguish them from AI-generated music
This is according to The Guardian.
The streaming service Spotify is introducing a new artist verification system.
Its aim is to help users distinguish real musicians from music and images created using artificial intelligence.
Spotify explains that such a system has become necessary due to the rapid growth in the number of AI tracks on music platforms.
The new “Verified by Spotify” badge will be gradually added to artists’ profiles and search results over the coming weeks.
It will look like a green tick.
This badge will indicate that the profile has been verified and meets the platform’s authenticity requirements.
At the same time, accounts that primarily feature music created by artificial intelligence, or artificially generated images of artists, will not be eligible for verification.
“In the age of AI, it is more important than ever to be able to trust the authenticity of the music you listen to,” Spotify said.
To receive the badge, an artist must meet several criteria.
In particular, they must have maintained a consistent engagement with listeners over a certain period of time.
The artist must also adhere to the platform’s rules.
A separate requirement is a genuine presence not only on Spotify itself, but also outside the service.
This includes, for example, concerts, merchandise sales or linked social media accounts.
The company has announced that, at launch, over 99% of artists actively searched for by users will be verified.
This involves hundreds of thousands of musicians from different countries and genres.
The launch of the new system comes amid growing concern in the music industry about the impact of AI-generated content.
The Deezer platform recently reported that tracks created by artificial intelligence already account for 44% of all new music uploaded to the service every day.
Major music companies are also responding to the situation.
Sony Music has stated that it has secured the removal of over 135,000 songs created using AI.
According to the company, these tracks imitated its artists on various streaming platforms.
In addition to the verification badge, Spotify is adding a new information section to all artists’ pages.
It will appear regardless of whether the artist has verified status.
This section will display key career milestones, release frequency and a history of live performances.
