Julian Assange's lawyer to defend Maduro's case in the US
Former President Nicolas Maduro, who is on trial in New York on charges including drug trafficking conspiracy, will be represented by experienced American lawyer Barry Pollack. This was reported by NBC News.
Pollack is a partner at the New York law firm Harris St. Laurent and Weschler and has over 30 years of legal experience. He was at Maduro's side during the first court hearing with his wife, Celia Flores. Both have pleaded not guilty
Pollack's most famous case was the defence of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. For more than a decade, he shaped Assange's legal strategy in the United States and in 2024 helped broker a deal with prosecutors that eventually led to his release. Assange pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Espionage Act by publishing classified material
Pollack's colleagues describe him as a thorough and discreet lawyer who specialises in complex cases at the intersection of law and geopolitics. According to representatives of the American Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, his experience with high-profile international trials makes him well-prepared to defend Maduro, whose case has already had a significant political and international impact
